What is Your Used Car History Saying?

Cars these days go through a lot. They are driven hard and long. Many cars are driven by taxi's, courier and other companies that keep a car on the road for many hours on end. Many teenagers have cars these days and they tend to take their driving lessons from the movie "The fast and the furious."

When you shop for a new used car, do you ever think "where has this car been"? Do you want a car that's led an exciting life racing the local expressway or a car that's been owned by a retired school teacher? Most people will prefer exciting cars without an exciting used car history.

There are so many used cars on the market, it's hard to keep track of them all - right? Not true... The government has in place a way to track every used car. Every car these days has a car identification number. This VIN allows records to be kept regarding all transactions relating to any used car history. These transactions are monitored by third party companies that then make this information available to consumers.

This new service - allowing consumers to review a used car history report - have provided a powerful way to combat fraud. Scam artists now have a harder time reselling junked cars, lemons, and cars that simply should not be allowed on the road. A used car history report makes it's easy to spot a suspicious car, even ones that people have tried to cover up.

Important warnings about used car history

Countless studies have shown that every day in the United States and Canada thousands of ordinary people just like you unknowingly purchase a car with costly, hidden problems. These problems can amount to thousands of dollars, not including added stress and time. Dirty dealers and lying sellers are making a killing off of naive people who want to trust the person they are buying a car from.

Sadly enough, there are many lowlife people, that will tell you anything just to sell you a useless car that will break down the next day. Protect yourself by being an informed consumer - don't become a victim of these popular scams:

• Odometer Rollback/Rollover
• Odometer Fraud
• Salvage Titles/Auction
• Flood/Fire-damage Titles
• Lemon/Rebuilt Title
• Major Accidents
• Stolen

For one thing, make sure you know who you buy the car from - have they been in business long? Do they have a positive reputation in the area? If a private seller tries to be anonymous, then it's a big bet they are hiding something and don't want you to know where they live when the car breaks down the next day. Always get a used car history check before handing over your money.
